The Telangana Football Association (TFA) has triumphantly secured approval to host a pivotal clash between India and Kuwait in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers. Set to take place on June 6 this year, the showdown will unfold in the vibrant city of Hyderabad, as announced by Dr. K.T. Mahi, Chairman of TFA.
The breakthrough came after a series of successful discussions between TFA officials and Telangana Chief Minister, Mr. Revanth Reddy, himself a former football player. Dr. Mahi expressed gratitude for the Chief Minister’s positive response, citing it as a pivotal factor in realizing this historic event.
During the discussions, Mr. G.P. Palguna, Secretary of TFA, also advocated for financial assistance to all State Sports Associations, which received an encouraging response from the Chief Minister’s office.
Confirming the development, a meeting convened between Dr. K.T. Mahi, Mr. G.P. Palguna, Mr. Shahnawaz Qasim IPS, OSD, and Mr. Ajith Reddy sealed the State Government’s support for the event.
Dr. Mahi lauded the support of All India Football Federation President Kalyan Chaubey for entrusting TFA with this significant opportunity. He emphasized the historic nature of the event, marking Telangana’s inaugural hosting of a FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match.
