The DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga (Bundesliga) and the government of Maharashtra have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop football in the western state.
The MoU was signed on August 28th by Commissioner of Sports and Youth Services Suhas Diwase and a delegation representing the Bundesliga, including Bundesliga International Chief Marketing Officer Peer Naubert. The signing ceremony took place at the prestigious Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Awards ceremony in Pune.
The MoU outlines three key areas of cooperation:
- Improving technical and sporting expertise: The Bundesliga will provide training and development programs for coaches, referees, and other football officials in Maharashtra. They will also work with the government to develop new football academies and training facilities in the state.
- Strengthening football structures: The Bundesliga will help the government to develop a more robust football league system in Maharashtra. They will also work to promote football at the grassroots level, by supporting local clubs and associations.
- Specifically supporting the progression of football within the Maharashtra district: The Bundesliga will work with the government to develop a long-term strategic plan for football in Maharashtra. This plan will focus on identifying and developing talented players, and on raising the profile of the game in the state.
Peer Naubert said: “We are delighted to partner with the government of Maharashtra to develop football in the state. We believe that football has the potential to be a major force for good in Maharashtra, and we are committed to working with the government to make this vision a reality.”
Suhas Diwase said: “This MoU is a major step forward for football in Maharashtra. It will provide us with the resources and expertise we need to develop the game at all levels. We are confident that this partnership will help to create a brighter future for football in the state.”
The MoU is a significant development for football in India. It is a sign of the Bundesliga’s commitment to growing the game in the country, and it will help to create a more vibrant and competitive football landscape in India.
