Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly planning to release Ben Stokes and Sisanda Magala ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL).

Stokes, who was bought by CSK for INR 16.25 crores in the 2023 auction, has only played two matches for the team this season due to injuries. He has scored 7 and 8 runs in his two innings, and conceded 18 runs in his only over with the ball.

Magala, who was signed as a replacement for Kyle Jamieson, has also been injured and has not played a single match for CSK this season.

The decision to release Stokes and Magala is likely to be a financial one. CSK are currently facing a salary cap crunch, and they need to free up some space in order to retain their core players.

The release of Stokes and Magala would also allow CSK to bring in some younger players who are more affordable.

It is still unclear who CSK will target as replacements for Stokes and Magala. However, the team is likely to be looking for players who can contribute with both bat and ball.

The 2024 IPL auction is scheduled to be held in February 2024.
