Uruguayan midfielder Federico Gallego has rejoined Uruguayan second tier club Sud América. The 33-year-old midfielder previously played for Sud América from 2011 to 2015, before moving on to Argentinos Juniors, Liverpool (Uruguay), Boston River, NorthEast United FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giants in India.

Gallego was loaned from Boston River to NorthEast United for the 2018–19 Indian Super League season. He scored a goal on his debut for NorthEast United against Goa, and went on to form one of the best attacking combinations in the league with teammate Bartholomew Ogbeche. Gallego won the Fans’ Player of the Month award for October in an online poll conducted by the league.

Gallego signed a contract extension with NorthEast United in 2020, and went on to win the Hero of the Month award for January in the 2020–21 season. He finished the season with 4 goals and 6 assists in all competitions, becoming NorthEast United’s all-time single-season top assist provider.

Gallego was injured in a clash with Chennaiyin FC’s Narayan Das in November 2021, and was ruled out for the rest of the season. NorthEast United decided not to retain Gallego for the 2022–23 season, and he has now returned to Sud América.

Gallego is a popular figure among NorthEast United fans, who call him the “King of the Highlands” for his successful contribution to the club. He is also respected by his rivals, who appreciate his skills and dedication.

Gallego is expected to be a key player for Sud América in their quest to win promotion to the Uruguayan Primera División. He will be hoping to replicate his success in India at his former club, and help them achieve their goals.
