Manchester City defender Nathan Ake has signed a new four-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2027.
The Dutchman joined City from Bournemouth in 2020 for a reported fee of £41 million. He has since made 81 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring four goals.
Ake was a key member of the City side that won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup last season. He has also been capped 19 times by the Netherlands national team.
Speaking to the club website, Ake said: “I’m incredibly happy to have signed a new contract with Manchester City. This is the best club in the world, I have no doubts about that. Being a Man City player makes me incredibly proud every single day.”
City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, said: “Nathan is a very important member of our squad and we’re delighted that he’s committed his future to us. He’s a versatile defender who can play in a number of positions, and he’s also a great guy who’s popular with everyone at the club.”
Ake’s new deal is a major boost for City, who are looking to defend their Premier League title next season. He is a reliable defender who can also contribute in attack, and his versatility will be a valuable asset to Pep Guardiola’s side.
Ake’s signing is also a statement of intent from City, who are showing that they are committed to winning trophies in the years to come. With Ake’s new deal, City’s squad is looking even stronger ahead of the new season.
